Florence Forth is a race for super heroes in memory of a super girl. The Cape Contest offers a fun way to express why we run Florence Forth.
Why we run Florence Forth
For Motivation: Florence Forth occurs on March 4th, 2017 – a great time on the calendar to motivate us through the winter. It’s only 9 weeks after the new year when most of us make New Year’s resolutions.
A Great Race for Everyone: Florence Forth has been named the best 10K road race in the Triangle for two years running. Florence Forth is an event for elite athletes, occasional runners and those that just want to come walk around Durham. It has something for everyone.
Helping Others: All proceeds from Florence Forth are used to advance the mission of the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance.Over the past 4 years, Florence Forth has raised over $160,000 to educate doctors, fund research and connect families.
We are all Super Heroes
Participating in Florence Forth and supporting the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance is the work of super heroes. We created the Florence Forth logo in memory of Florence wearing her pink cape while receiving treatments in the hospital.
Each year many participants wear a cape while walking, running or volunteering (see some of their pictures below). The Kids Cape Dash is the culminating event of each year’s race. Wearing our capes on this special day is a further reminder we are all Super Heroes. This year is the 5th anniversary of Florence Forth. With the Cape Contest we are going back to our roots and branching out.
Want to show off your inner super hero? Enter your cape in the first annual Florence Forth Cape Contest. The rules are simple and outlined below. In the weeks ahead, we will open a Cape Contest page where you will be able to upload one or more pictures of your cape and a short description of why you Florence Forth. Deadline for entry will be Sunday, February 12, 2017
January 29, 2017. We will open online voting very soon after the entry deadline and will announce the winners at the start of the Florence Forth road race. Stay tuned for more details and possible further updates to the schedule.
Online voters will be asked to select the winners based on original and creative interpretation of this year’s Florence Forth theme: “Five Years Running: Making a difference together.”
- To be entered in the cape contest, you must be registered to run or walk Florence Forth or be signed up to volunteer.
- Your cape must be wearable but not necessarily something you can run in. It must be generally recognized as a cape meaning it attaches at the neck, flows down the back and does not contain sleeves. The cape should be at least waist length but above the ankles.
- Families may enter more than one cape but only one cape per registered participant or volunteer.
- The cape can not contain any trademarked or copyrighted images or any other design that would prevent Florence Forth from reproducing the cape or associated images in future promotional materials. The use of the AE Alliance logo and / or the Florence Forth logo are allowed but not required.
We will be posting more details in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of caped participants from prior years.
