Florence Forth accepts applications for a limited number of elite athlete entries in an effort to create a diverse and exciting field. Elite athletes will be offered a comp entry and an opportunity to request local accommodations.


A runner must have achieved the following 10K standard within the past 3 years. Comparable times for longer events are also accepted.

Men’s open:  32:00

Men’s masters:  35:00

Women’s open:  37:00

Women’s masters:  40:00

Athletes should submit the Elite Athlete Request form by January 15 for priority consideration. A limited number of Elite Entry applications will be accepted at the discretion of the race organizers. Entries submitted by January 20th should expect to be notified of status by February 1st. Entries submitted after January 20th will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

We will be able to provide housing on Friday night for select elite athletes in private homes.  This will be decided on a case-by-case basis with preference given to those who complete the request by January 20th and who live more than 1.5 hours from Durham.

All athletes who have been offered housing should plan to arrive in Durham on Friday by 7:00 pm in order to be housed. Please do not bring any unexpected guests.

Prize Money

Florence Forth is the USATF 10K State Championship race with a total prize purse of $2,400.

USATF 10K State Championship Prize Money ($2,400 total):

  • Open Men & Women: 1st: $400, 2nd: $250, 3rd: $150, 4th: $100, 5th: $50
  • Masters Men & Women: 1st: $100, 2nd: $50

To be eligible for USATF awards, athletes must be full time 12 month resident of NC and a member of the USATF North Carolina Association.  USATF eligibility will be verified after the race. Cash prizes will be mailed to winners after eligibility has been confirmed for all USATF award winners and final verification of times and placement.
