How Did Florence Forth Begin?
It all started with our daughter Florence. A fearless, kind, loving child who sadly contracted and battled a rare disease, called autoimmune encephalitis, where the immune system attacks the brain causing devastating effects for patients. For four years, Florence fought this disease with poise, brevity and wearing her pink cape… facing hard days and tough tiring treatments with perseverance and joy. Yes, joy. She never complained and continued to love all of her caretakers until she died at age 6 on March 4, 2012. We knew that marching forth (i.e. March 4th) was our calling to keep moving forward in her legacy. Each of us may have day to day challenges. And so we Florence Forth to a better day.
The Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a devastating and lonely disease. We started the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance so no one would have to face AE alone. And we have learned that with proper diagnosis and aggressive treatment, patients can fully recover from AE. When Florence was sick, there was little understanding about diagnosing and treating this disease. The AE Alliance is changing the trajectory of this disease for patients across the country and around the world. Learn more. https://aealliance.org/
When you run Florence Forth, you are supporting the work of the AE Alliance to educate physicians, support patients and families, and facilitate scientific research. Register today.
